Staying Motivated Through Instrument Rating

When I began flight training my attitude and outlook on the new adventure was a mix of excitement, uncertainty, and hopefulness. I have found that these three attitudes are molded throughout time and experience. As one might imagine, hopefulness doesn't fade if training and progress is being made but it becomes more of a reality...becoming a professional pilot. In regards to uncertainty, the only changes I have come to find are what I am uncertain about. When I started my training I was more worried about my capability to fly, now I am more worried about the availability of a good job in this fluctuating economy. The most difficult struggle for me would have to be excitement for flying during my instrument training. I know what most pilots would think when they first heard this, "maybe you shouldn't be a pilot if your not enjoying it." That's exactly what I thought to my self as well, but my roommate (who is a year ahead of me in flight training working on his commercial license) told me this feeling is most likely due to the nature of instrument training. He explained to me that it's not unusual to get bogged down during instrument by the large reading load and most of all the constant flying under the hood; which will not be a part of commercial training...but with fun maneuvers and the ability look outside. So to all you private pilots and instrument trainees, don't doubt your future of being a professional pilot just because of the nature of instrument training.

Music

It's a strange but comforting sound with interconnecting strings of words that seem as though they are describing your life perfectly and often better than you can. Music has an unsuspecting way of subconsciously strengthening our feelings while putting thoughts not yet brought about by your own wondering in thought. We then agree with the new words and ideas to make them our own to act and meditate upon silently in isolation and loudly in population.
